Dealing with Boredom in Quarantine

How many of you, like me, never thought you’d be asking yourself, “how do I keep from getting bored in quarantine?” What a peculiar thing to say. At least it used to be. This situation is unprecedented, and we’re all trying to navigate what our current “normal” is. Read on for some ideas to keep boredom at bay–and a few things to make you laugh 😍

Creative Ideas

  • Send a weekly newsletter to your friends and family. Share your funny stories, coping mechanisms, cute pictures of the kiddos and pets, etc. Use this opportunity to bring a smile to people’s faces.
  • Virtual happy hour or game night with friends. (One of our personal favorites is Jackbox.)
Cooking to deal with boredom while in quarantine: Block of tofu sitting next to a glass bowl and whisk with ginger, red chili flakes, liquid aminos, sesame oil, and pure organic maple syrup sitting on a tray.
  • Decorate your desk or workspace to instill a sense of calm and bring joy.
Organizing desk to deal with boredom while in quarantine: white desk with pink flowers, colorful notebooks, and family photos.
  • Get dressed up for a dinner date night in with the spouse or FaceTime with a friend.
  • Keep a quarantine diary: what you felt that day and at least one thing you’re grateful for.

  • Make a list of things you will no longer take for granted once social distancing is over with.

  • Make a fort and eat snacks and watch movies with the kiddos.
  • Indoor or backyard scavenger hunt for the kids. Or the dog. 🙈

  • Finally get around to making that photo book with all of your pictures. (Looking at the photos will bring happiness and remind you of the good memories.) ❤️
  • Post things on social media that make people smile. (No matter how ridiculous they are!) 🤣

Make a Music Playlist

My playlist on repeat includes songs that currently make me feel calm and relaxed. (This playlist changes often.) I love cover songs and piano or violin renditions, so most are not sung or played by the original artist.

  • Perfect (The Piano Guys)
  • Dancing On My Own (Pentatonix)
  • Story Of My Life (Boyce Avenue)
  • Apologize (ItsAMoney)
  • Someone You Loved (Ian Grey)
  • Simply The Best (Stephanie Rainey)
  • Missing You (Acoustic Version) (Tyler Hilton)
  • Break Your Heart (Edward Cullen)
  • I Will Always Love You (Whitney Houston) –because there’s no one else that can do this song justice!
  • Just The Way You Are (The Piano Guys)
  • Tiny Dancer (Nolan Neal)
  • Stand By Me (Julia Westlin)
  • Landslide (Boyce Avenue)
  • Use Somebody (2CELLOS)
  • Something Just Like This (Daniel Jang)
  • Hello (Joe)
  • Angel Eyes (Jim Brickman)
  • Anything But Mine (Kenny Chesney) –one of my favorite songs of all time

Funny Memes, Tweets, GIFs

Since this is an especially stressful time, we need to occasionally take the time to laugh and find the humor in something so negative. Here are some of my favorites:

Hello From The Inside

This parody of Adele’s song Hello is my personal favorite. 😂

“I love sarcasm, and honestly, I’ve never been more unfiltered in my life. I didn’t censor myself at all and all of a sudden everyone is connecting to what I’m saying,” Chris Mann [writer and star of Hello (From The Inside)] said. “For once I said exactly how I felt, and I think that’s kind of incredible.”
